Local Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISUDEV) is a registered non-profit organization that was created to improve the quality of life, promote well-being, and reduce poverty among disadvantaged and underprivileged populations and communities in Cameroon. We do this by improving access to education, healthcare, WASH.

Since 2022, LISUDEV has been working with partners to improve the quality-of-life of the underprivileged and disadvantaged populations in the Northwest region of Cameroon, particularly those affected by the ongoing armed conflict (IDPs).

The Grants writer will play an integral role in the operational management of grant programs for the organization and will contribute to the advancement of best practices in grantmaking. The Grants writer will work closely with the Executive Director and other team members to effectively manage grant processes in the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Grants Officer will be responsible for the overall grant management process in the organization. The Grant officer will identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities, as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to government, private and other funding agencies and foundations. Responsibilities includes; preparation of proposals, concept notes/papers and grant applications. He/she will be responsible for performing professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in areas of LISUDEV’s programs.

Essential duties

  • Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization.
  • Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality proposals, narratives, applications and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with all policies and procedures of LISUDEV, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies.
  • Maintain primary responsibility for grant schedules and tracking grants
  • Serve as a liaison to all funding agencies and organizations
  • Research, develop, write and submit letters of inquiry, concept papers/notes and grant proposals to funding agencies.
  • Coordinates and follows-up on the progress of submitted proposals
  • Coordinates with the finance office to create expenditure and income budgets to accompany proposals
  • Develops and maintains a master file on pending grants and contracts
  • Remain up-to-date on current issues relative to grant proposals
  • Meets regularly with the executive directors and staff to discuss current and new funding needs
  • Become cognizant of regulations and other matters of compliance with all grants, including the FAQs, emails, webinars and all other communications related to the grants
  • Become familiar with and adhere to policies and procedures of LISUDEV’s and donor’s grant management systems
  • Inform the executive director on the progress of all grants and any issues that may arise with each grant.
  • Submit all proposals to the executive director for review and approval
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information at all times
  • Performs any other duties assigned as required

Education, Skills and Abilities

  • At least Bachelor’s degree in grant writing, project management or related fields is required
  • Grant writing and project management experience required
  • Experience, which should demonstrate a proven track record of securing new funding opportunities
  • Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria and funding cycles
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities for LISUDEV’s programs.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent writing and communication skills is required
  • Be highly organised with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes
  • Excellent Computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel), and database management skills
