Improving the quality of life, promoting well-being, and reducing poverty among underprivileged populations in Cameroon.
ABOUT US
Local Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISUDEV) is a non-profit organization that addresses the challenges faced by underprivileged populations and communities in Cameroon. LISUDEV was established in 2020 and legalized in 2022 (under Cameroon law No. 90/053 of 19 December 1990) to transform lives at the grassroots level. We exist to improve the quality of life, promote well-being, and reduce poverty among underprivileged populations and communities in Cameroon.

Over 1.5 million school-age children are in need of education assistance especially in the crisis-hit regions of the Northwest and Southwest
CLEAN WATER AND SANITAION

An estimated 2.3 million people are in need especially in the rural areas.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Cameroon faces severe challenges in healthcare including lack of infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, exacerbated by ongoing conflict. Over 3.4 million people are in need.
OUR RESPONSE
HEALTH and WELL-BEING
LISUDEV supports healthcare across the Northwest region, and provides community health services and mobile outreach. Our services include maternal and newborn health services, construction and rehabilitation of health facilities, provision of medical equipment, promoting SRHR, health education and awareness. We also provide training for healthcare professionals and for community health workers, who educate local residents on public health issues, engage in disease surveillance. LISUDEV supports community-based surveillance of diseases of epidemic potential, including Mpox, cholera and malaria, helping to facilitate early detection, prevention and response.
CLEAN WATER and SANITAION
LISUDEV supports access to clean water and sanitation particularly in rural communities and schools. Our services include constructing and rehabilitating water infrastructures, sanitation facilities, menstrual health and hygiene education and awareness. We also provide training on reusable sanitary pads production to adolescent girls and women. Over the past 3 years, these efforts have led to significant reduction in water-borne diseases, and improved the health of vulnerable populations in MOMO and Mezam divisions of the Northwest region of Cameroon.
AGRICULTURE and LIVELIHOOD
Over the years, climate change and its impact including severe drought, increased pests, heavy rains and landslide have led to the displacement of people and reduced agricultural crop production. This has resulted in self-insufficiency at the household level and the country at large.
LISUDEV supports small-scale agriculture, income-generating activities and economic empowerment. We also provide agricultural assistance and training for rural farmers on the use of productive systems that are resilient to climate change, provide quality seeds and farming tools to rural farmers to improve yields, promote regenerative, organic and conservation farming and support supply chain strengthening and market linkage.

FEATURED PROJECTS
EDUCATION FOR RURAL HILDREN AND IDPs

The project supports the education of IDPs and poor and vulnerable children aged 5–17, affected by the ongoing armed conflict in the rural and hard-to-reach communities of Njikwa by providing alternative education through community schools. Children of these rural communities continue their education through contracted community teachers recruited in the community schools.
BAKWA GRAVITY WATER SCHEME

The Bakwa gravity water scheme in partnership with the Njikwa council aimed to improve access to clean water for the rural population of Bakwa. The water source will serve the population of 1500 people (816 children, 364 women and 320 men) reducing the incidence of water-borne diseases in the community, and improve the overall health of the population.
AP-CARE: PRE-CONCEPTION CARE

The “ACTION ON PRECONCEPTION CARE (AP-CARE): Steps to a Healthy Family” project in partnership with Talk Pregnancy with Dr. Noella, aimed to address the critical need for comprehensive preconception care to ensure healthier pregnancies and improved maternal and child health outcomes in the Northwest region.

Testimonials
Improving WASH and Education

The WASH products and training we received in school have positively impacted the lives and well-being of our students, especially young girls and IDPs from enclaved communities like Asaka, Bakwa, Basa, Banya, Bako, and Ikweri who are attending school here in Oshie. Many young girls and IDPs, who previously faced challenges in accessing WASH products and sometimes used grass, leaves, and dirty clothes for menstrual hygiene, now have access to those products. This initiative has significantly improved the situation; girls no longer resort to using grass, leaves, or dirty clothes during their menstruation. School attendance and performance have increased, and the initiative has significantly enhanced the overall health and well-being of students and the community.

Improving Sexual Reproductive Health and Well-being

Through LISUDEV’s training, I learned about SRH. Before the training at our school, I didn’t know much about my body, my rights, or how to protect myself. I was shy and afraid to ask questions. But during the sessions, I learned a lot, from menstrual hygiene to preventing early pregnancy and understanding my health as a young girl, and also gained access to menstrual products to take care of my body. Now, I feel confident, informed, and empowered to make better choices for my future. This training has changed my life. I wish every girl in rural communities, especially the IDPs, could have this opportunity.

Empowering women

LISUDEV’s training has really boosted my understanding and confidence. Before this training, I was farming groundnuts the way I learned from my parents, without knowing why my yields were always low. Through this training, I learned how to prepare my land properly, select improved seeds and manage pests. For the first time, I also learned how to keep farm records. This has changed the way I see farming, not just as hard work, but as a business that can support my family. I am confident that my next harvest will be better, and my income will increase.
